Discovery of Silk in China:
- According to Chinese legend, the discovery of silk dates back to around 2700 BCE during the reign of the Yellow Emperor, Huangdi. The legend attributes the discovery to the Empress Leizu, who is said to have found silkworm cocoons in her tea while sitting under a mulberry tree.
- She observed the process of the silkworm spinning its cocoon and developed the technique of unraveling and weaving the silk threads.
- This discovery marked the beginning of sericulture and silk production in ancient China.
